Oscar 2025, una notte di sorprese e conferme

 

E rieccoci all’edizione 2025 degli Oscar. La 97ª edizione degli Academy Awards, tenutasi il 2 marzo scorso al Dolby Theatre di Los Angeles, ha offerto una cerimonia indubbiamente briosa e scintillante per la caratura degli ospiti. A condurre la serata è stato Conan O’Brien, che con la sua pungente ironia ha smorzato i momenti di tensione e ha saputo offrire un intrattenimento intelligente. Ma al di là delle forme, i riflettori puntavano dritti alle scelte della Academy e, tra momenti di trepidazione, non sono mancate sorprese.

Senza girarci attorno, a dominare la serata è stato “Anora” di Sean Baker, un regista che ha sempre raccontato con delicatezza e occhio critico il lato meno patinato dell’America. Il film ha conquistato (udite udite) ben 5 statuette, tra cui Miglior Film, Miglior Regia e Miglior Sceneggiatura Originale. Non poco. L’interpretazione di Mikey Madison, poi, le è valsa il premio come Miglior Attrice Protagonista, confermando il talento di un’attrice che fino a ieri era considerata un volto emergente. E’ una vittoria che segna un punto di svolta per l’Academy, negli ultimi anni sempre più orientata a premiare film d’impatto sociale e visivo. Tuttavia, sommessamente, bisbigliamo che la pellicola non sembra la più innovativa tra quelle in gara… Ad ogni modo, Anora ha vinto anche l’Oscar per il Miglior Montaggio. Chi ha seguito la presentazione non avrà potuto non notare la disarmante dichiarazione di Baker: “ho fatto questo film in solaio. Penso che il montaggio sia importante quanto la regia e il resto“. Poi, ha ringraziato moglie, produttori e il suo cane per l’ispirazione. Una bella prova di forza.

Detto questo, se c’era un film che sembrava poter conquistare la notte degli Oscar, quello era “Emilia Pérez” di Jacques Audiard. Partito con ben 13 nomination, si è dovuto accontentare di due premi, certamente belli, ma di risalto minore: Miglior Attrice Non Protagonista per Zoe Saldaña e Miglior Canzone Originale. La mancata vittoria di Audiard per la regia è per una grande fetta di pubblico uno dei momenti più critici, così come l’assenza di riconoscimenti per il protagonista, Karla Sofía Gascón, che avrebbe potuto scrivere la storia come la prima attrice trans a vincere un Oscar. Ma la Academy, forse, non ha ancora forza sufficiente per dimostrarsi… progressista.

Qualche premio inaspettato
Se la vittoria di Mikey Madison era in un certo senso prevista, la statuetta per Miglior Attore Protagonista è andata a Adrien Brody per “The Brutalist” di Brady Corbet, un film che ha ricevuto il pollice alzato per la sua estetica audace e la profondità narrativa. Brody, già vincitore nel 2003 per “Il Pianista”, ha confermato il suo talento in ruoli tanto intensi quanto drammatici. Un altro momento inedito è stato segnato da Paul Tazewell, che è diventato il primo uomo di colore a vincere l’Oscar per i Migliori Costumi grazie al suo lavoro in “Wicked”. Un riconoscimento che, pur meritato, arriva con anni di ritardo rispetto al contributo della comunità afroamericana al mondo della scenografia e del costume.

Cinema Internazionale e Animazione
Nella categoria Miglior Film Internazionale ha prevalso “Io sono ancora qui” (Ainda estou aqui) del brasiliano Walter Salles, una scelta che conferma l’attenzione della Academy verso il cinema sudamericano, già emersa negli ultimi anni con le vittorie di “Roma” e “Parasite”.
Sul fronte dell’animazione, “Flow” del lettone Gints Zilbalodis ha battuto i colossi americani, un segnale che il cinema d’animazione indipendente europeo sta guadagnando sempre più spazio anche nei circuiti mainstream.

Tirando un po’ le somme, parrebbe che in questa edizione 2025 l’Academy abbia premiato una buona quota di cinema indipendente, senza tuttavia osare troppo. Alcune scelte hanno il sapore della prudenza, altre quello di una vera apertura a nuovi schemi. E ci resta il dubbio: è un cambio o solo un lifting?
